Online Safety Certification
Program!
Our Safety program is both serious and comprehensive. When you
have completed this training program you will have a very full understanding of
the issues and precautions regarding inflatables which will greatly decrease the
likelihood of injuries since most accidents with inflatables are attributed to
operator/supervisor error. If you are renting from us and reading this you have
promised to successfully complete our Safety Certification Program. If you
decide you do not want, or you can not complete and pass the Safety
Certification Program, we will provide trained and certified staff, for your
party, at your expense. At no time will we leave any of our equipment to be used
without a competent, certified supervisor.
Slides
There are two formats
to
download. This one is a
Power Point
Presentation.
This one is a
Corel Presentation Both
of these slide presentations will take a little while to download and then they
will play on your computer using the software associated with them. The Slide
Presentations do not contain photos.
Videos
Most of the videos are under a minute each. Please listen to, and
view, each segment. When you press on a link in the box below, your computer
will get the video segment you requested and then the computer will prepare the
clip to play on a Real One Player, (or another player,)which is
normally already on your computer. The whole process may take a minute or so
depending on the speed of your Internet connection, the speed of your computer,
and how many other people are viewing the videos at the same time you want to
view them.
(Sometimes Real Player will stop prematurely, be sure each segment is viewed
completely!)
Some of the following information will appear to be repeated a
couple of times. That is because this information is coming from several
different sources and they ALL insist that you know and are familiar with the
information they provide.
This first part is a more detailed
version of the information on our website. In NJ, inflatable play units
are called 'moonwalks' we prefer 'Air Castles' and 'Inflatable Slides' which are
the terms we will use below to describe the inflatable units you are renting
from Air Castles And Slides, LLC. Although Air Castles and Slides are completely
insured, YOU still need to be responsible and make sure
All children are continuously supervised while any child is in, using, or
around, any of our Air Castles and Slides rentals, and all rental machines.
Information about the netted windows:
All of our Air Castles and Slides have secure Safety Netting to keep
bouncers safely inside.
Generous
use of high quality netting and thread, results in safe, well ventilated
Air Castles and Slides.
Integrated netted windows
are in all our Air Castles and Slides rentals so that the children are always visible
inside the unit.
The netted windows can be a problem if
children are permitted to hold the netting while jumping. Be sure children
are not holding the netting or leaning on the side walls. Children's
fingers and teeth have gotten entangled on webbing which has resulted in injury
to fingers and teeth.
Information about the safety step:
All of our Air Castles have an Attached Safety Step
for safe climbing in and out.
The children
need to climb onto the safety step and into the low doorway to enter the unit.
To exit the unit the children need to sit, or lay on their belly to slide feet
first out of the low door and onto the step. After they are sitting on the
step they can get off of the step in a controlled, safer manner.
Information about the safety roof:
Most Air Castles have a special roof that can be used open or
closed which can also function as an emergency exit.
The Air Castle and Slide will be fully inflated and safety
checked before we leave. We will go over this safety check with you. Everything
will be in safe operating order before we leave. When the unit is initially set
up we ask for a 'dedicated' circuit meaning nothing else is plugged into the
same electric line/circuit. Sometimes a client believes there is nothing
else on the line, but after we leave some other electrical appliance kicks in
and pops the circuit. In this situation get the children out calmly, but quickly
and THEN solve the blower's or Air Castle's or Slide's problem.
The first
sign there is a problem will probably be the change in SOUND, you may have A
SUDDEN DROP IN SOUND, as the blower goes off. As soon as you recognize the
sound has stopped have all of the children SIT DOWN and then in an orderly
fashion have the children exit quickly, but orderly through the door.
Alternately you can have all
of the sitting children exit through the roof. There are three clips on
one side of the roof. Make sure, during the safety check you have noted
where the clips are located. In an emergency you can quickly unclip the roof and
the children can exit.
If the
blower stops, either from a circuit popping, or someone accidentally unplugging
the unit, it is scary for the children BUT you do have time to get the children
out. The top of the unit will fall down within 18 seconds, so some
children will be coming out when the top is down.
WE recommend
that before the children use the Air Castle for the first time you have them all
together and explain the safety rules below, especially the part about sitting
down if they hear your whistle blow. Explain to them that everyone will
get out safely, but it might be scary.
Information about the inflatable walls and
weights:
Air Castles and Slides are engineered to be safe when children's weight is
distributed throughout the inside jumping surface area.
Know your Air Castles and Slides
weight restrictions. Be very careful not to exceed this weight.
Safety is based on this weight distribution.
Each unit has a sign on the unit
which details the limits for that particular unit. Read and follow these
instructions.
Side walls are not constructed to
support children bouncing off of the walls. They are designed to keep children
safely inside. Make sure no one bounces off the walls.
Safety Rules:
Adult supervision of all children is required at all times.
Read and follow the rules printed on the actual Air Castle and
Slide you are renting.
Only Air Castles and Slides' staff may set up, and take down your jump
house or slide.
Air Castles and Slides are designed for children. Teenagers and adults are
too big to bounce. Teen and adult weight can not be distributed correctly.
Children in Air Castles and Slides should be close in age.
Divide children by ages and give each group their own time to
bounce, jump or slide in our Air Castles and Slides.
Children must remove shoes before using
Air Castles and Slides.
Keep all sharp objects away from inflatable
Air Castles and Slides
units.
Keep all pets away from
Air Castles and Slides.
Keep all food, drinks and snacks away from bounce houses.
Stay out of jump bounce houses and slides in strong wind or
thunderstorms.
Air Castles and Slides need to be deflated and not used in winds 15 MPH and
higher.
Air Castles and Slides need to be deflated during thunderstorms. After unit is deflated, please use mat to cover blower during rain
or thunderstorms.
If the inflatable is deflated accidentally (i.e. power outage)
have all children sit quickly and then exit orderly through the door, or emergency roof/ceiling
release/exit. You will have time to get everyone out
safely!
After all children are safely out and away from the moonwalk,
jump houses, slides, air castles, and various inflatables, then fix the
problem.
Keep all party toys such as 'silly string' and other toys away from Air Castles
and Slides. Silly String (and similar products) destroys the fabric, it is
prohibited around Air Castle And Slide Inflatable units.

Ride Safety Bulletin CPSC Issues Important Amusement Ride Safety Bulletin on
Inflatable Amusement Rides
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in
cooperation with the states of Florida, Wisconsin, California and the
Commonwealth of Kentucky, has investigated several incidents nationally which
involved inflatable amusement rides. The incidents occurred between March 1999
and February 2001 and involved broken bones, head injuries, contusions,
abrasions and sprains. Additionally, the Commission is aware of three deaths in
previous years. These mobile Inflatable Rides are customarily used at fairs,
carnivals and festivals, but are also operated at private fairs and parties
through rental agencies. Riders on inflatables vary in age from children to
adult.
The commission is aware of nine incidents, which resulted in
21 injuries, on large slide-type inflatables and 33 incidents, which resulted in
33 injuries, with bounce-type inflatables. These incidents were primarily
attributable to improper operation, anchoring and set up. Due to the number of
injuries and incidents involving inflatable rides and to reduce the number of
injuries through a more consistent industry-wide operation of all inflatable
amusement rides, the Commission staff issued this safety bulletin.
The Commission requests all owners, operators, state safety
officials and those firms that rent inflatables to private parties to closely
follow manufacturers instructions and guidelines for operation and set-up. In
addition, the following recommendations should be adhered to:
Inspection procedures and guidelines for safe set-up and
operation of inflatable rides may vary from ride to ride or from manufacturer to
manufacturer. In addition to the manufacturer’s guidance, the CPSC staff
recommends the following guidance during inspections:
Minimum number of operators on an
Inflatable slide is two (2).
Minimum number of operators on a
inflatable bounce is one (1).
Maximum recommended weight per
passenger is 250 lbs..
DO NOT exceed manufacturer’s
requirements for maximum loads for individual rides.
Follow the owner/operator’s manual
for site layout, inflation procedures, ropes, tethers, tie-downs,
anchors, use temperature range, maximum number of riders, size of riders,
electrical codes, daily operation, daily inspection, washing, repair, deflation,
drying, storage and transportation.
ALWAYS anchor rides per manufacturer’s
requirements.
The on-ground anchor weight used for the various inflatable
ride ranges from 75 pounds (for bounce type rides to 500 pounds (for slide-type
rides) for each recommended anchor position. This weight range strongly
indicates that an inflatable ride’s operator should follow the ride
manufacturer’s recommendations for proper anchoring.
Place and use anchors at all of the manufacturer’s required
positions. These anchors can be straight stakes, screw stakes, ground weights or
sandbag ground anchors.
Anchor ropes, tethers or tie-downs should be attached to a
secure device or permanent structure and attached so that they cannot slip off
the top of their stake during use. DO NOT attach anchors to motor vehicles.
Ropes, tethers and tie-downs should be sufficiently strong to
resist breakage during use. Recommend ½” solid-braided polypropylene rope with a
tensile strength of 3700 or 370 lb. test rated.
Identify and use the number and location of tie-downs
specified by the manufacturer. DO NOT use non-load bearing positioning loops as
tie-downs or anchor points.
Ground stakes should be a minimum of 40” with at least 10”
exposed above ground (this will be dependent of surface where set up).
Do not use the inflatable ride above wind speeds that exceed
the manufacturer’s recommendation. Various manufacturers recommend maximum wind
speeds from 15 to 25 mph depending on the ride. However, unload and deflate any
inflatable ride when the wind speed exceeds 25 mph.
The inflatable ride should not collapse onto the riders if
the power to the blower(s) inflating the ride should unexpectedly fail.
Inflatable rides need a sealed chamber to prevent the rapid collapse of ceilings
and walls onto the riders if the electric power to the blower(s) fails.
In addition, the CPSE recommends
that state inspectors provide this bulletin on inflatable rides to rental
companies within their state and that rental companies
provide renters with the following materials:
A training program for the renter for
the proper operation of the inflatable ride.
A copy of the operation manual (and/or
videos, training manuals) for each rental period.
A copy of this safety bulletin.
A release statement signed by the
renter documenting that he has received and understands the ride operation
procedures.
The CPSC requests all state and local amusement ride safety
inspectors, insurance inspectors and private contract inspectors, as well as
owners and operators of “inflatable amusement rides” to follow and adhere to the
above guidance during inspection.
